Have you enjoyed making your mini magnolias over the past week? They were so much fun to create, and they're just adorable! If you haven’t had the chance to get started yet, no worries. Take your time when you can and enjoy crafting these charming blooms.

When I began quilting, I promised myself that this creative outlet would not add stress to my life. I wanted it to be an enjoyable experience, so don’t stress about what you haven’t accomplished yet. Just appreciate the moments you can devote to it and enjoy every second. The tutorials for each step of the quilt along will be available indefinitely on YouTube under the playlist "Simply Sweet Sew Along." You can check it out here.

This past Saturday, I demonstrated how to make one of the delightful little houses, which is row five of our row quilt. There will be a total of six house blocks, and they are relatively quick and easy to make. I had fun selecting colors for the doors, and you could add pops of color for the windows. I chose to keep my windows uniform with the same fabric, but this week would be a great opportunity to pull from your stash and get creative.

The house blocks come together quickly and won’t require nearly as much time as the mini magnolias. This would be a perfect week to catch up if you still have some blocks to make. Be sure to share pictures of your finished blocks with us on Facebook. Click the following link join the Quilts Bloom at Dawn Group and and share your progress.

Next Saturday, May 17th, I will demonstrate row three of the quilt along, making one of the six tulip buds. I kept my tulips in shades of strawberry red, using one print for each; however, for added dimension and a scrappy look, try using a wider range of color shades for your tulips.

Once we finish this row, we will be over the halfway mark, with only three more rows to go: the scrappy start, the sawtooth stars, and the four patches. We’ll have this quilt top pieced together in no time!  Just a reminder, if you are just joining us, you can purchase your pattern from Chelsi Stratton’s Etsy shop by clicking on the link:

I’m actually writing this post while visiting my brother in Tampa. He just moved into a new home, and when he took us on a tour, I was pleasantly surprised to see the very first quilt I ever made—a simple panel with added borders—spread out on one of the guest beds.

It’s so special to see how much he appreciates this gift, yet when I examined my workmanship, I cringed a little. The binding looks pretty rough, and the quilt isn’t perfectly straight, but then I paused to appreciate it for what it was: a beginning. It marked the start of what has become a defining part of my life! While I could see every flaw, I can assure you my brother saw it only for what it was—a handmade gift made with love for him. I’ve come a long way since then and learned many tips to improve the overall construction of my quilts, but I will always cherish seeing those early quilts for what they are: a beginning. Display those early works proudly, regardless of perceived imperfections. Quilting is a journey, and every journey has a starting point. Never be embarrassed about where your quilting journey began. Embrace your past, celebrate how far you’ve come, and enjoy every moment along the way!

Thank you for joining me on this quilting journey! Quilting is fun, but it's even better with friends.

Happy Quilting!

We are excited to announce that our Simply Sweet sew along has officially started with our mini magnolia blooms! On Saturday, I demonstrated how to create one complete block of this adorable bloom. If you haven’t had a chance yet, click on the link below to check it out: Watch the video here.

We will be making a total of 12 mini magnolias, which will make up the first and last rows of our Simply Sweet quilt. These are my favorite blocks from the quilt, and I had so much fun creating them! I hope you enjoy working on your blocks this week, and I would love to see your progress! Please visit Quilts Bloom at Dawn on Facebook and share your blocks with us!

Next Saturday, May 10th, we will be working on row 4 of the quilt along, where we'll be making the charming little houses. I will demonstrate this delightful block, which is fun, fast, and easy to sew! It only requires two folded corners, and aside from that, it involves simply piecing squares and rectangles together to create a cute row of six houses. I especially enjoyed selecting fabrics for the doors and windows and used this opportunity to pull from my fabric scraps.

Just a reminder: we are working on the blocks in the order listed in the pattern to ensure there is enough fabric to complete the blocks, starting with the largest cuts first. If you haven’t purchased your pattern yet, it is available from Chelsi Stratton’s Etsy Shop. Here’s the link: Get your pattern here.

I received some feedback about the cameo appearance of one of our dogs, Henry, during the YouTube video on Saturday. I didn’t even realize he made it into the frame! That’s our 2-year-old, Happy Henry. We have three rescue dogs—Toby, Baby, and Henry—who all love to check in on what I’m working on while I quilt. You will likely see or hear them from time to time!

Thank you for joining us on our quilting journey! Quilting is fun, but it is even better with friends.

Thank you for joining this quilting journey with me!  I look forward to the many projects and tips we will uncover together.

On Saturday, we introduced our next quilt along project on our YouTube channel which is also available on our website under the tutorials section.  This quilt along features the Simply Sweet row along quilt pattern from Chelsi Stratton Designs available in her Etsy shop in download or print version. All the fabric requirements needed are included in the pattern and discussed during the quilt along introduction video.

Every week we will demonstrate a block from each row of the quilt which includes 2 rows of mini-magnolia blooms, tulip buds, 2 rows of stars, and a row of sweet homes.  It is fat-eighth friendly, making this a perfect opportunity to use up leftover spring fabrics or pull out that favorite collection you’ve been saving for that perfect project!  I’ve selected some leftover fabrics from Camille Roskelley’s Rosemary Cottage collection, along with a few samplings from my scraps.

You will need 30 fat eighth prints plus 3 green prints for grass, stems, and leaves along with a print for the border and binding, a background fabric, and backing.

Next Saturday, I’ll be demonstrating the adorable mini magnolia bloom in our YouTube video.  There are 6 blocks per row and the mini magnolia blooms make up both the first and last rows.  Once you complete these, you will already have two rows finished!

During the demonstration, I will showcase one of my favorite tools that I recently discovered: the Mini Simple Folded Corners Ruler by Doug Leko from Antler Quilt Design.

This tool simplifies the process of making precise folded corners and allows you to measure, mark, and cut fabric—all in one easy step!  Whether the project calls for half-square triangles, flying geese, or snowballed corners, this handy tool is perfect for adding intricate details to your quilt without the hassle of complicated measurements.   The ruler can be used in two ways: either oversized and cut down or cut to exact measurements.  Be sure to check out the next YouTube video, where I demonstrate how to cut to exact measurements using this fantastic tool.  The Mini Simple Folded Corners Ruler is available for purchase directly from Antler Quilt Design.

Until Saturday, Happy Quilting!
